… as Mushin council assures Ladipo traders

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the appointment of Peter Okonji as the new general manager of the state electricity board.

A statement signed by Habib Haruna, chief press secretary to the governor, notes Okonji’s appointment takes immediate effect.

He replaces Damilola Ogunbiyi, who was appointed the general manager by the immediate past governor, Babatunde Fashola. Okonji, an engineer, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Ife; now renamed Obafemi Awolowo University.

He is also a member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) and registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

He joined the state service in 1986 and served in various capacities until his new appointment.

Meanwhile, the authorities of Mushin Local Government has assured traders at the popular Ladipo auto spare parts market that they would not be thrown out following the planned redevelopment of the market.

Babajide Bello, the council executive secretary, said there was no going back on the redevelopment of the market as it was in line with the state government’s vision of building infrastructure that befit Lagos’ megac- ity status.

“We have signed an agreement with them on the redevelopment, which will be carried out in phases. As we finish one side, they will move in and we will move to the next. Ndigbo are part of us, nobody will be driven away,” Bello said, yesterday.
