As part of effort to bridge infrastructural deficits in the area of roads, energy, health care delivery, water among other social amenities, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state has earmarked N965 million as infrastructure intervention fund for immediate development of 193 wards across 16 local government areas of the state.
The governor, who explained that at least N5 Million each is expected to spent on such projects in the 193 wards, also directed contractors handling various projects in the state to return to sites immediately, adding that state places high premium on quality infrastructure for socio-economic growth and development.
According to official statement issued Abdulwahab Oba, Chief Press Secretary on Tuesday in Ilorin, which quoted the governor at the monthly Stakeholders Meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the fund will be expended on the projects in the areas of energy, water, road construction, health and education, and will be completed as the state revenue improves.
He added that another round of youth and women empowerment scheme will begin next week in order to engage women and youths as well as to stimulate the state economy in such a way that the multiplier effects would be felt in all the 16 local government areas, particularly, as regards job opportunities.
But, speaking on the delay in the payment of Local Government workers and Basic Education teachers, Governor Ahmed explained that his government had assisted in the payment of their July salaries with the disbursement of N160 million to local government councils, saying worst times are over with improved internally generated revenues and federal allocations.
