AFRICOM to collaborate with African countries for development

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) said arrangement had been concluded to collaborate with African countries for development.

The commander of AFRICOM,  Thomas Waldfhauser, said this while delivering a lecture for course 25 at the National Defence College (NDC) Headquarters, Abuja.

The theme of the lecture is: “Strategic Environment and Professional Development”.

Waldfhauser said that African countries and the United States of America (USA), had come a long way, especially in the areas of economy, security and information, among others.

He said that U.S. had enjoyed many opportunities with many African countries, as such, it had become imperative for it to partner with Africa for their development.

He noted that African countries, especially Nigeria, shared significant economic ties, trans-regional, trans-national extension and security interests.

The commander also said that AFRICOM was ready to assist African countries, especially Nigeria, in area of combating terrorism, ethnic syringe, poverty, disease and food insecurity.

“We are ready to collaborate in saving failing African countries , diplomacy, the unity of African countries and capacity building for Africans,” he said.

Waldfhauser promised that AFRICOM was ever-ready to come to African countries’ aid to alleviate whichever challenges they were facing, particularly in this era of terrorism.

The commander also promised that AFRICOM was ready to give the necessary assistance to Nigeria and other countries around lake Chad basin to overcome the activities of terrorists in the area.

The Commandant of NDC , Rear Adm. Samuel Alade, expressed delight at Waldfhauser”s visit to the college as well as the lecture he delivered.

Alade also said that participants of course 25 of the college were very lucky to benefit from Waldhauser”s lecture and urged them to make judicious use of it in their future career.

“I have no doubt in my mind that the richness of the lecture, going by the topic, will go a long way in reshaping your profession and your general conduct as professionals.

“It will also go a long way in making course 25 at the college to have edge over other courses based on the nature of the lecture delivered,” Alade said.

The commandant noted that Nigeria and the US had come a long way, especially in areas of economy, information and security.

The commander expressed confidence that African countries stood to benefit tremendously from the activities of AFRICOM.
