The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara was at the Presidential Villa, Tuesday to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, the meeting between the leadership of the National Assembly and the President which has been widely reported did not hold, as the Senate President Bukola Saraki did not show up.
Newsmen were prevented from establishing the meeting and as such could not interview the Speaker.
However the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, told agitated journalists who sought to know the outcome of the meeting, that the meeting was to be held with the leadership of National Assembly and only the Speaker showed up “so there was no marriage” .
Presidential aide on National Assembly, Ita Enang who was also at the President’s office said no meeting was held but that discussions on the budget were still on.
Senate Leader, Muhammad Ndume, had on Monday assured that the impasse between the presidency and the National Assembly on the 2016 budget would soon be resolved.
Ndume had in an interview with newsmen in Maiduguri said the leadership of the National Assembly would hold a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari this week in Abuja towards ending the impasse.
“The leadership of the National Assembly will sit down and talk to the president on the issue this week,” Ndume had said adding that “we were supposed to have met last week, but we shifted the meeting to this week due to some factors,’’ Ndume said.
