…Withholds results of 13,488 candidates’ results over exam malpractices

The West Africa Examination Council on Friday released the results of the November/ December 2016 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Private with the results of 13,488 candidates, representing 7.81 percent of the total candidature being withheld for further investigation in connection with various cases of examination malpractice.

Olutise Adenipekun, Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC at a press briefing at the council’s office in Yaba, Lagos said that out of the total number of 172,699 candidates who sat for the examination, 175,411 candidates, representing 99.31 percent have their results fully processed and released, while 1,210 candidates, representing 0.69 percent have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors mainly traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination

Adenipekun while giving a detailed statistics of the result disclosed that of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, a total of 66,497 candidates, representing 38.50 percent, obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

He observed that 38.50 percent performance of candidates that obtained five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics in the WASSCE for Private Candidates represents an improvement to the result of 2014 and 2015 which was 29.37 percent and 20.59 percent respectively.

According to him, a total of 176,621  candidates registered for the examination, out of which 172,699 candidates sat the examination. Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 88,290  were male and 84,409 were female representing 51.12 percent and 48.88 percent respectively.

He however called on candidates who sat the November / December 2016 WASSCE to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website within the next 24 hours.
