5 factors to consider when buying a family car

Although vehicles became very expensive in 2023 due to the surging global inflation, the year ended with many automakers reporting a rise in sales.

Major automakers including Ford, GM, Toyota, and Honda recorded a rise in sales compared with 2022. Here, we ranked the 20 bestselling cars in 2023:

Ford F-Series

Ford F-Series is the bestselling car in 2023 with a total of 750,789 units sold, representing a 15 percent increase in sales over its 2022 results.

Ford also disclosed that 24,165 of these sales were of the electric F-150 Lightning pickup.

Chevrolet Silverado

Chevrolet Silverado ended the year as the second bestselling car with a total of 555,148 units sold, representing a 6.1-percent increase compared to 2022. It finished second place behind Ford.

Ram Pickup

Ram Pickup took third place as the third bestselling car in 2023 with a total of 444,926 units sold, representing a 1 percent decline in sales compared to 2022.

It was gathered that a face-lifted model will debut this year as a 2025 model, and it could help Ram’s numbers this year. This model will be the first Ram truck in over 20 years without a Hemi V8 option.

Toyota RAV4

Toyota Rav4 ended the year as the fourth bestselling car in 2023 with a total of 434,943-unit sales. RAV4 is America’s most popular SUV, and in 2023, it was 8.4 percent more popular than in 2022.

Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y, which was the best-selling vehicle in the world for 2022, is the fifth bestselling car of 2023 with a total of 403,897-unit sales.

As the fifth best-selling vehicle in 2023, the Model Y sales represent a 16-percent increase, which shows that the electric vehicle is gaining global popularity.

Honda CR-V

Honda CR-V ended the year as the sixth bestselling car with a total of 361,457-unit sales. The ever-popular CR-V recorded a significant 51.8 percent year-on-year jump and this was fueled by the launch of the sixth-generation model, which came in September 2022 for the 2023 model year.

GMC Sierra

With a total of 295,737 unit sales in the year under review, GMC Sierra ranked as the seventh bestselling car. It is a mechanical twin to the Chevrolet Silverado, and this full-size pickup and its heavy-duty stablemate both had a strong year. They increased by 22.4 percent overall compared with the previous year.

Toyota Camry

Toyota Camry ranked as the eighth bestselling car with a total of 290,649-unit sales. It retained the title of best-selling sedan in America, proving more popular than notable SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chevrolet Equinox, and Ford Explorer. Its sales dropped slightly by 1.5 percent.

Nissa Rogue

With a total sales unit of 271,458 in 2023, Nissan Rogue ranked as the ninth bestselling car. It was the most popular SUV with a 45.6 percent year-on-year increase for 2023.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

With a total of 244,594-unit sales, Jeep Grand Cherokee ranked as the tenth bestselling car in 2023. Last year was one of its best sales years with a 10 percent rise compared to 2022.

Toyota Tacoma

Toyota Tacoma, the world’s 11th bestselling car, turned out as the second Toyota on the list with a total sales unit of 234,768, representing a 1.1-percent dip compared to 2022.

Toyota Corolla

Toyota Corolla is the third Toyota on the list, and it ended the year as the 12th bestselling car with a total sale unit of 232,370. This represents a 4.6 percent rise in sales even though the current model is several years old and due for an update.

Tesla Model 3

Tesla Model 3 ranked as the 13th bestselling car in the world in 2023 with an estimated total sales unit of 213,000.

Chevrolet Equinox

Chevrolet Equinox ended the year as the 14th bestselling car with a total sales unit of 212,701. This represents a 0.3-percent year-on-year increase. The current model is several years old, but a next-generation model may debut this year.

Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai Tucson is the only Korean vehicle that made the top 20 and it ranked number 15. It ended the year with a total sale of 209,624 units, which represents a 20 percent rise compared to 2022.

Honda Civic

Honda Civic ranked as the 16th bestselling car in 2023 with a total sale of 200,381 units. The sales jumped 49.6 percent in 2023 compared to 2022.

Honda Accord

Honda Accord is the third Honda on the list, and it ranked 17th with a total sales unit of 197,947, representing a 28 percent increase compared to 2022.

Ford Explorer

Ford Explorer ended the year as the 18th bestselling car with a total sale of 186,799 units. The SUV recorded a 10 percent decline in sales compared to 2022.

Toyota Highlander

Toyota Highlander is the fourth Toyota on the top 20 list and it ranked as the 19th bestselling car in the world. It recorded a total sale of 169,543 units despite the current Highlander dating back to 2020. It recorded 23.9-percent sales drop last year.

Subaru Outback

Subaru Outback ranked number 20 with a total sales unit of 161,814, representing a 9.9 percent rise compared to 2022.
