BusinessDay Governorship awards: Awardees pledge recognition will spur them to do more

Winners of the BusinessDay Governor of the year for the 2019 States Competitiveness and Good Governance Awards have pledged that their recognition by Nigeria’s foremost source of financial and business intelligence would spur them to do more for their states.

The award-winning Governors described the awards as a moral booster to redouble their efforts towards providing good governance, infrastructure, security and empowerment programmes to people of their states which have been recognized through objective assessment.

Speaking on behalf of the BusinessDay Governor of the yea, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, Deputy Governor of the State, Kelechi Igwe said the award was a challenge to go and do for people of ‘the of nation’, state.

Igwe assured BusinessDay and the people that with the award, they would be surprised when they come to Ebonyi in a couple of months as more people-oriented projects would be executed, and dedicated the award to God, the state First Lady and the people of the state.

Similarly, Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State, winner of both the Governor of the Year -North and Most Improved State in Transparency in Governance awards, represented by Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Isa-Idris Garba pledged to do more in transparency, accountability and good governance.

Speaking on behalf of the Imo State Governor, Uche Uwaleke, Commissioner for Finance, said the State Government would continue with the policies and programmes that have made the state the fastest growing economy in the Southeast region.

Also, Nasarawa State Governor represented by Director of Press Government House, Yakubu Lamai said his principal to do more in the area of solid minerals development, infrastructure development and ease of doing business.
