GM’s Chevy Trailblazer enters sub-Saharan Africa

The all-new seven-seater Chevrolet Trailblazer is now available in Angola, Nigeria and Gabon. Forming part of the global sport utility vehicle (SUV’s) expansion into sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) markets, it is the newest offering from General Motors and brings with it a rich history, advanced engineering and ultimate versatility.

Built on the tripod of power, class and comfort, a powerful turbocharged diesel engine and a proven petrol motor power the various models in the new Trailblazer line-up, ensuring there is a model to suit different consumer needs.

Coupled to the high-output engines, a refined chassis which plays host to a good-looking body and a quality, comfortable cabin, makes it a great all-rounder, its merits both on and off-road augmenting its suitability to African markets.

Featuring the latest in diesel engine technology including common rail injection and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), the 144 kW and 500 Nm 2.8-litre Duramax turbo diesel engine in the new Trailblazer 2.8D 4×4 models is available with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

The Duramax diesel engine is ranked amongst the most powerful and fuel efficient diesel engines available in its displacement class.  Engine features double overhead camshafts and an aluminium cylinder head designed to optimise combustion for enhanced power and efficiency with a reduced tendency for engine knock to occur.

It also makes use of high-pressure common-rail fuel injection systems with turbocharged and intercooled induction systems. The clean-burn design of the induction and combustion process, aside from the power and efficiency benefits, also provides for low emissions and Euro 2 compliancy.

Fuel economy is impressive, the 2.8D models returning figures as low as 8.5-litres per 100 km. Topping the range, the 3.6 V6 4×4 automatic models are powered by a proven 3.6-litre petrol V6 engine which produces 176 Kw and 329 Nm.

With high specifications and safety levels all round, the two available LT and LTZ trimlines bring with them varying degrees of specifications with the former already featuring high-level equipment even at entry level. Feature highlights include alloy wheels, eleven cup holders and air conditioning for all three rows of seats.

It also comes multi-function steering wheel, a multi-information trip computer, four 12V power sockets, cruise control, Bluetooth, USB and auxiliary connectivity, a front-loading CD player, remote central locking, electric windows all-round, electric mirrors, a rear view camera, front fog lamps, mud flaps and side steps.

LTZ models feature an even greater list of standard equipment, including automatic climate control, larger alloy wheels, an auto-diming interior mirror, leather upholstery, an electric driver’s seat, LED tail lights and HID headlamps.

Safety equipment across the range includes ABS with EBD, PBA (Panic Brake Assist), HBFA (Hydraulic Brake Fade Assist), a limited slip differential, six airbags including the two additional side airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a collapsible steering column and remote central locking with auto-locking doors.

LTZ models benefit from the addition of ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and TCS (Traction Control System), HDC (Hill Descent Control), TSC (Trailer Sway Control) and EDC (Engine Drag Control) and HSA (Hill Start Assistance).

The MyLink infotainment system which brings smartphone technology the Trailblazer is also fitted to all models as standard with a large 7-inch touch screen display and a host of media capabilities. Video and picture playback, full audio format support linked to six speakers, USB and aux integration, as well as Bluetooth for hands-free cellphone.

MyLink concept is simple – an amalgamation of the most popular and advanced infotainment functions incorporated into an easy-to-use, attractive and effective interface which transforms the Chevrolet Trailblazer into a connected entertainment hub while on the move.

Chevrolet MyLink has been designed to be compatible across the board both in terms of phone integration and playable media formats, which means the most common music, picture and video formats can be streamed or played via most smartphones – the additional full-size USB and auxiliary ports ensuring that other sources of music, videos or photos can also be easily integrated.

Up to 35 pre-set and 15 auto-stored AM or FM radio stations can be programmed as well, rounding off the complete entertainment solution that is Chevrolet MyLink.

It continues to embody Chevrolet’s SUV know-how, which stretches as far back as 1936 when the original Suburban was first introduced.Trail blazer name first debuted in 2002 when the Chevrolet brand gave birth to a large SUV with a balance between comfort and off-road ability being pinpointed as its most prominent aspects.

Embodying those specific attributes since global introduction in 2012, the all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer is built in Thailand for global consumption.

Also featuring advanced 4×4 drive train design and technology, Trailblazer is as comfortable and capable off-road as it is in the city, where generous ground clearance of up to 230 mm, excellent critical angles and a sturdy 4×4 system allow for exceptionally easy off-road driving. All models come standard with a 3-year/ 100 000 km warranty depending on the market.
