The recently concluded technology exhibition and conference, Techplus 2017, has in so many ways, placed Nigeria in the fore front of ICT leading countries in Africa according to many experts that were in attendance.
The event which held in Lagos from last Thursday 6 to Saturday 8, July 2017 brought together hundreds of leading experts in technology business from around the world to share insights and gain more knowledge on innovation, information and communication technology
Themed; “An intelligent Future”, the event provided a robust platform that allowed companies, individuals and businesses in the tech space to bring together customers, clients and stakeholders to showcase their products and services and speak to millennials on how to prepare for business in an intelligent future taken over by technology.
In his opening remarks, Adebayo Shittu, Minister of Communications, applauded the organisers of Technplus2017 for holding such a robust conference to create practical opportunities for stakeholders present to talk about technology and feel the impact that technology has on different facets of life, both from business and consumer perspectives.
Shittu also used the opportunity to further highlight the objectives of the new ICT University to be established by the federal government. He explained that the university which will start operations in September will focus on adding value to the current level and pace of economic development in Nigeria, diversifying our economy and positioning Nigeria as the go-to-country for ICT knowledge in Africa.
“The ICT University will be the first of its kind in Africa. It will compete with similar institutions in India and South Korea. It will be the first of its kind in Public-Private sector partnership and private bodies, institutions and organisations would be invited to adopt and take ownership of various departments and campuses and bring in all that is needed to create the desired ICT revolution in the country,” Shittu said.
Techplus 2017, had in attendance several exhibitors and speakers such as Chude Jideonwo, Managing Partner, Red Media; Adeola Shasanya, Co-Founder, AfroTech girls; Jumoke Akiyode, Head of ICT desk, BusinessDay Media; Ope Filani, Country Manager, Advoice; Silas Adekunle, Co-Founder, Reach robotics; Nimi Akinkugbe, CEO, Bestman games; Tarae Onyeje, Co-Founder, Neuronal Software Ltd; Nmamdi Ezeigbo, CEO, Slot systems; Bankole Oluwafemi, Co-Founder, Big Cabal Media, and over 90 others, who spoke on topics such as; Data driven marketing in the age of intelligence, Millenial marketing: entertainment as a viable marketing tool, Tech meets tourism, E-commerce, Social media, Gender realities in a digitally immersed future and others.
Taiwo Oyewole, General Manager of Techplus said while giving his opening speech, that this year’s ‘activity-filled’ edition of TechPlus is more than just a conference or exhibition, as many novel ideas have been made to deepen conversations and ensure that participants make true connections and seize opportunities to transact business.
Oyewole added that, “Over the past editions, TechPlus has become many things to different people. A place to learn, get the pulse of the market in the tech ecosystem, meet like minds, network, play games and of course also have fun.”
The well attended three day event, ended with the gaming finals, where Okili Chucks was announced as the Mortal Kombat winner and Ogbonnaya Daniels emerged winner of FIFA17 at the gaming competition.
