Nigeria’s Wi-Pay Technologies Limited is set to role out more strategies and platforms for cashless transactions and payments to deepen Nigeria’s cashless policy implementation.

This is as the company has been tipped to bag the prestigious innovative award by Nigeria Goodwill Ambassador Awards Organisation (NGAA).

Wi-Pay Technologies Nigeria and Wi-Pay Global LLC (USA) form a group of financial technology companies providing an integrated array of e-payment solutions, according to Rowlanda Fredricks, the firm’s media relations’ officer in a mail made available to BusinessDay.

Specialty areas by W-Pay are said to include “world-class services such as non-cash payments via PoS terminals, mobile devices, online platforms and international remittance, all tailored to various markets and customer base to deliver an unparalleled customer experience both locally and internationally.”

The award “Most Innovative Company of the Year 2015” to be conferred on it is said to be for its “remarkable strides in expanding the horizons of the cashless policy as being implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).”

Company sources said in a letter received by the firm from the NGAA, it was indicated that Wi-Pay was being recognised for its remarkable strides in expanding the horizons of the cashless policy as being implemented by the CBN.

“During the award ceremony, the company would be commended for the achievements attained within the short period of its operations through reaching out and sensitising consumers and attracting new merchants to embrace the usage of non-cash methods of payments via PoS, mobile devices and online. This drive is truly a testament of Nigeria’s push towards a cashless society in the 21st Century,” Fredricks said.

The impending recognition seems to excite the young firm. According to Charles Ighedo, head of IT operations in Wi-Pay, “this award really underscores the company’s vision to become the pre-eminent e-payment solutions provider in Nigeria and West Africa. So, we are very excited to be selected to receive such notable award.”

Furthermore, he said: “This honour is indeed auspicious coming at a time when the company is poised to launch a variety of new products and services across its platform.”

The NGAA award is said to be one of the most outstanding and befitting honours bestowed on very distinguished personalities and organisations in Nigeria and Africa, who positively impact on people’s lives on the continent.
