Foremost broadband Internet service provider, Spectranet 4G LTE has projected that broadband internet will soon become preferred means of viewing sports and other programmes on TV.
Managing Director, Spectranet, David Venn, said in a statement that
Nigeria has made notable strides in internet adoption and projects that by the time the country clocks 60 years almost everyone will have access to high speed broadband internet which has a richer internet experience.
Disclosing this during Ikeja Golf Club Independence tournament held on October 1st and sponsored by the Spetranet David said “Technologically, if you look at where Nigeria is now as regards Internet, a lot of people are still using the old 3G networks. With 4G, it brings you to the modern economy via high, speed reliable internet.
“As a business, we are focusing very much on bringing the best technology in a very reliable and affordable way. And I think that for there to be a good penetration of internet in this country and for a lot of people to be able to afford it, it needs to be a good reliable and affordable service. We are here to do our part.
“We currently have an affordable service covering the whole of Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan and we are about to launch in Port Harcourt while four to five other cities will come shortly afterwards. We are hoping to roll out as quickly as possible but we want to make sure that it is going to be a good reliable and affordable service.”
Noting that Nigerians are sport lovers and watch sports a lot on Pay-TV, he said that broadband offers an alternative means to enjoy this cherished culture without subscribing to satellite TVonce there is an active broadband connection.
“A lot of people here love sport and movies. I have the traditional pay-tv satellite decoder at home. I have not watched it on for almost a year. I watch almost everything on broadband, whenever and whatever I choose to watch; I watch streaming videos, movies and live sports. All of these are available on the World Wide Web. You need a good connection to watch that.
“So what we are focusing on is providing broadband for the home and businesses. Once you have a broadband router in your home, the whole family can use it to browse and importantly, the TV can use it too. And you can watch YouTube, comedy channels, music videos, movies, sports, etc without subscribing to satellite TV.
“And in the next few years, I think this will become popular. We have already tied up with firms like IrokoTv to offer their service to our customers and that’s very popular.
“At 55, Nigeria has come a long way. I see a lot of hope in this country expecting high things to happen and if everyone joins together, the country has got a wonderful future,” he said.
Endorsing Spectranet’s Sportsmanship, Captain of Ikeja Golf Club, Air CdreTokunboAjomale (rtd) said, “I believe that Spectranet is much appreciated by consumers. If not, they won’t be strong enough to sponsor this golf competition.
“And of course, Spectranet happens to be one of those companies out there that has the interest of the game at heart. So socially, the brand is impacting positively to societal development. In terms of golf, the country is just coming of age and with this kind of corporate sponsorship, we can promote our existing youths programme with a view to grooming Nigerian Tiger Woods of tomorrow,” he said.
