Space technology key to MDGs in Africa – Ewa

Ita Ewa, science and technology minister, says space technology is key to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Africa.

Ewa made this known at the 2013 National Space Dialogue and Media Conference organised by the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) in Abuja.

He said the goals were achievable, particularly in countries where satellite solutions and products, were effective and efficient.

“I wish to state here that almost every aspect of human problems can be tackled with relevant satellite and sensor platforms and applications”, he said.

He, however, stressed the need for Nigeria to leverage on the spin-offs of the advances in space technology for sustainable management of its resources and wealth creation.

“This vision and resolution for space technology by Nigeria’s leadership has played a fundamental role in supporting and enhancing the know-how training and transfer (KHTT) among Nigerian engineers and scientists”.
