Sony Mobile deepens competition in smartphone market

Mobile communications giant, Sony is angling for a huge chunk of Nigeria’s highly competitive smartphone market with the introduction of its latest in stock, the water resistant Xperia Z, into the Nigeria’s market.

This move is coming after last year’s buy back of 50 percent of Ericsson shares by Sony, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Corporation reputed for being global innovator of information technology products for both consumer and professional markets.

The smartphone segment has already witnessed the launch of blackberry 10 device, Samsung Galaxy S 4 and Nokia Lumia device.

In view of this, Sony Mobile has expressed confidence that its product, with a wide array of exciting features and capabilities can compete favourably.

Speaking at the launch of the device in Lagos, Izzat Kittaneh, director, Business Management and Pricing, Customer Unit for Middle East and Africa at Sony Mobile Communications, Izzat Kittaneh said Xperia Z is an Android smartphone with multi-faceted features. He also said that Xperia Z boasts of a range of unparalleled features including a five inches full High Definition (HD) 1080p Reality Display Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor.

This is in addition to its mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 ad a 13 mega pixel fast-capture camera, stressing that Xperia Z is a game changer in smartphone technology and has generated lots of excitement since its debut at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January this year. Sony Mobile, he said, is optimistic that Xperia Z will increase the momentum several times over in key African markets and Nigeria is one of those key markets.

Aside from bring to smartphone Sony’s long-standing TV expertise to the deliver immersive viewing experience with super brightness and clarity.

“The smartphone shares capabilities with Sony digital cameras and features Exmor RS for mobile, the world’s first image sensor with High Dynamic Range (HDR) video recording for smartphones.” He explained that device comes with battery Stamina mode that could improve standby duration by four times or more by automatically shutting the battery-draining mobile apps, whenever the screen is off and restoring them when the screen is on.
