Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) has announced plans to expand its operations in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, with the opening of a new office in Lagos.
The company said that Nigeria is a priority country in the Africa region, adding that the initiative is part of plans to enhance its operational agility for delivery of its mobile broadband infrastructure for telecommunications operators in the country.
NSN declared that it is determined make available 1gigbyte of personalised data, of personalised data, per user, per day, per dollar for Nigerians by 2020. The office was inaugurated by Igor Leprince, Senior Vice President of Middle East & Africa region; Salvatore Maisano, Head of Central East & West Africa and Sam Nwosu, Country Director for Nigeria, NSN, the company said in a statement.
Okechukwu Itanyi, executive commissioner, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC); Johnson Salako, chief executive officer, MobiTel; Olu Raheem, head of Trade Center, Finland Trade Center, West Africa, among others were in attendance. “As a global mobile broadband specialist with avalanche of experiences over the years, Nigeria is a top priority country, and NSN is reinstating its efforts to expand the Nigerian mobile broadband market, by ensuring that 1 gigabyte of mobile data for a particular user at the rate of one dollar will be made available to Nigerians by 2020”, Igor Leprince, senior vice president, Middle East Africa, Nokia Solutions Network told newsmen at the opening ceremony of NSN’s new office recently in Lagos.
He said the need to further expand and penetrate the Nigerian mobile broadband market by collaborating with Nigerian network operators to ensure quality service delivery is of paramount importance. “We are determined to equate Nigeria’s mobile broadband to that of Japan, USA, and Korea by deploying high technologies that will enhance broadband; collaborating with network operators, and the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC). Nigeria being the hall mark of African technology market is our priority and we are passionate and determined to conquer the mobile broadband market, he said. According to Sam Nwosu, country manager, Nokia Solutions Network, the opening of the new office by NSN in Nigeria will be a benefit in terms of strengthening Nigeria’s mobile broadband infrastructure and economy.

Our telecom market is fast growing with subscribers increasingly adopting smart devices and demanding high quality voice and data services,” Okechukwu Itanyi added.
According to him, “NSN’s advanced products and services, and strengthened quality of delivery will help operators ensure better broadband access to a large part of the country’s population for better education and development. In addition, it enhances the position of Nigeria as a technology hub, while improving knowledge transfer toward our country.”
