LG Electronics awards scholarship to UNILAG students

In line with its drive to immensely contribute to raising the standard of education in Nigeria, LG Electronics, leading provider of consumer electronics and mobile communications has kept its promise by awarding scholarships to another set of meritorious students of the faculty of Engineering of the University of Lagos.

The sponsorship event is conducted annually and organised by LG as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities with the primary aim of empowering young people as well as developing the educational sector.

The company says it committed to ensuring that youths who are the future leaders are adequately empowered and given financial support in order to enable them achieve their dreams and aspirations.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Deog Jun Kim, managing director, LG Electronics West Africa Operations, said “This scholarship is being awarded to 10 students of 400 and 500 levels from the Faculty of Engineering who emerged as best students after a careful selection by both the university authority and LG Electronics based on their Grade Points of 4.0 to 5.0, which made them stand out from their colleagues.”

LG Electronics’ partnership with the University of Lagos has been longstanding as the company has continually contributed to the growth of the university with its donation of the LG Design Lab and its first and continuous initiative of scholarship awards program; an avenue to collaborate with institutions of higher learning in the country in order to upgrade the educational standard as well as create employment opportunities.

Speaking in this vein, Mohammed Fouani, managing director, Fouani Nigeria Limited, said: “as a purpose driven organisation, we are concerned about the future, which is why we are investing in our youths who happen to be the future leaders of this great nation. We strongly believe that this award will go a long way in encouraging them to aspire for more as well as spur those coming behind to strive to excel in their academics.”

One of the recipients, said: “I feel so elated to be receiving this award from LG Electronics, a global organisation, for recognising my efforts; I enjoin other corporate bodies to take a cue from LG in order to raise the level of education in Nigeria and as well as spur those coming behind to also work hard so as to benefit in the next award program from LG.”

Over time, LG Electronics through its various CSR activities has confirmed its devotion and dedication to the Nigerian people. Among them are the annual partnership with the Lagos State Government in planting trees to help protect the environment against environmental degradation and global warming; donation of LG Anti-mosquito Air Conditioners malaria drugs and mosquito nets to health centres, amongst other beneficial programs to the society at large.
