ISPON discusses ways to prompt Nigeria to digitalisation

The Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) is planning discussions on how Nigeria can benefit and tap into opportunities of the fourth industrial revolution in order to create a digital economy.

Discussions with Information Communication Technology (ICT) experts, software practitioners and captains of industry will be held during the annual ISPON, president dinner which will hold in Lagos on April 6, 2018.

According to ISPON, Isa Ali Pantami, Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, and DanAzumi Mohammed Ibrahim, Director General, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), have been confirmed to attend. They will address members of corporate Nigeria and software industry stakeholders on the strides taken towards the actualisation of the Executive Order No.s 003 and 005 as well as the advancement of the indigenous software industry.

The forum, according to ISPON will have Adebayo Shittu, Minister of Communication as the special guest of honor.

James Emadoye, President of ISPON, disclosed that the theme for the 2018 dinner is “The fourth industrial revolution, a golden opportunity for Nigeria to leapfrog into the league of developed nations.”

Emadoye said that the forum which will be chaired by Olukayode Pitan, managing director/chief executive officer, Bank of Industry (BoI) is expected to discuss other industry issues especially local content and its benefit to the Nigerian economy.

BusinessDay learns that the event will have the participation of Microsoft Nigeria, IBM, Tecno, among other international organisations, and the keynote will be delivered by Emmanuel Ekuwem; secretary to the Akwa – Ibom State Government.

According to Emadoye, the fourth industrial revolution is a build up from the third and is characterised by a fusion of technologies with a direct impact on the physical, digital and biological spheres of life. This revolution is peculiar for its speed, reach and impact and it’s evolving at an exponential rate.

He explained that the key aspect of this revolution is the level of disruption it will create in any industry and in any part of the world bringing about total transformation of everything.

“We intend to critically analyze how Nigeria can seize the golden opportunity that this revolution presents”, Emadoye said.
