Accenture PLC, a global management consulting and professional services company providing strategy, consulting, digital and technology has disclosed plans to leverage on its new technology trends for 2017 to change the tech space in Nigeria.

These new trends include artificial intelligence, ecosystem power plays, workforce market place, design for humans and the uncharted.

The development of these five technology trends are coming at a time when Nigeria is yet to attain global standards as regards effectively and efficiently utilising technology in changing the lives of people, organisations and the society as a whole.

Speaking during the unveiling of the Accenture Technology Vision for 2017 to its alumni, Olaniyi Tayo, managing director, Technology, Accenture told BusinessDay that this year, Accenture is building on the trends they have seen in the last five years. “Artificial intelligence is the new user interface; this is where artificial intelligence tools become the spokesman for the enterprise in engaging customers in a manner that will enable customers to derive value and for the organisation to satisfy customer needs in a personalised manner.

“Secondly, the eco system power plays mean that any company that is still thinking from an individual perspective will not survive in the future. We believe this is the future where like companies can come together to create value for the customers.

“Thirdly, the workforce market place, we believe that the workforce is going to be transformed from the typical way that work forces are today to what to a better and more efficient one, leveraging on technology. The fourth trend, which is the design for human is essentially talking about personalisation, making technology such that it is for people and it is configured in a manner that helps to achieve the objectives of individuals.

“The last one is the unchartered, which means that  because the trend is taking businesses, individuals and societies to a different level or experience, the traditional regulations that exist today will not be applicable in the future, so new regulations to manage this new digital market place are required in order for success in that environment,” Tayo said.

Speaking earlier at the event, Omobola Johnson, Partner, TLcom Capital LLP said that over the last few years, Nigeria has re-prioritise technology, adding that Nigeria now has innovations in the technology space, enabling people use technology in engagement in social media.

Johnson said that despite the above achievements, Nigeria is still far behind in terms of prioritising technology. “We need to have more infrastructures that covers many more people so that people are involved in technology, it is more about the content and its relevance to us and in solving our problems. It is all about skills as well. We need people that have skills and a lot of the skills we are developing are not relevant to the future that we are planning for ourselves. It is really about ensuring that we are well prepared for the future,” she explained.

Speaking on the focus of the event, Johnson disclosed that Accenture is using the platform to engage people on intellectual basis, helping them to think out of the box and making them understand what the trends means for their businesses and their companies.

“One thing technology has created for us that we can leverage is accessibility. The focus of the Accenture event is about establishing ecosystems and ecosystems relates to how we can collaborate to access information. Nigeria has to open its doors, encourage investments, cross border collaboration and really enhance its education.

“After collaboration and learning, then will be adaptation, how we can use technology to suit our needs. There are a lot of opportunities because there are lots of countries that are far advanced that seek Nigeria as an opportunity and want to work with Nigerians and collaborate with them,” Onyeche Tifase, CEO Semens limited said.
