Over 10 Nigerian tech start-ups among AppsAfrica Awards finalists

About 12 Nigerian tech start-ups have been shortlisted for the final list of the various categories of TheAppsAfrica.com Awards scheduled for 6thNovember, in Cape Town, South Africa.

 

The list was sent to BusinessDay on Wednesday, 4th October by the organisers, AppsAfrica.com.

 

Over 300 start-ups from 31 countries in Africa submitted an application for the annual awards ceremony which will be marking its third year in 2017. The submissions were considered by independent judges drawn from leading technology firms in Africa.

 

“TheAppsAfrica Awards was set up to celebrate the best in mobile and tech across the continent as many ventures do not get the visibility or recognition they deserve,” said Andrew Fassnidge, founder of AppsAfrica.com. “This year produced a vast array of great entries from exciting new technologies utilising artificial intelligence (AI), bots and drones to mobile, health and education initiatives scaling across Africa.”

 

Among the Nigerian start-ups that made this year’s finalists list are Kudi and WetinDey nominated for Best Social and Messaging Award; Medsaf (recently won Seedstars Lagos pitch contest) and Girl Effect – Tega for the Disruptive Innovation Award category; Flutterwave and Asoko Insight for the Enterprise Solution Award category; Bounce News and Sportsie for the News and Entertainment Award category; Piggybank and Flutterwave for the Fintech award category; and VConnect, Jumia and DressMeOutLet for the mCommerce category.

 

The AppsAfrica Awards sponsors include BoomPlay Music, Basebone, BBM, Content Connect Africa, Monday South Africa (MOMO) and the Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF).

 

According to the statement, the award winners will be provided with global publicity, recognition and networking with 300 plus industry peers at the awards party.
