Xavi Hernandez has turned down Barcelona’s offer to take charge of the Catalonia side in January.
But the 39-year-old Al Sadd coach is hoping to join the Blaugrana in June, Marca reports.
Xavi met with Barcelona’s CEO Oscar Grau and technical director Eric Abidal in Qatar to discuss the possibility of succeeding Ernesto Valverde.
Garcia Pimienta, the current manager of Barcelona B is expected to replace Valverde until Xavi becomes coach at the end of the season.
Thus, the former Athletic Club tactician will continue as Barcelona coach and will oversee the team’s training session on Monday.
Xavi was appointed as Al Sadd’s coach back in 2019 and has recently led his team to the final of the Qatar Cup.
