Rail ticket prices for fans travelling from New York City to the MetLife Stadium for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been slashed from $150 to $105 following widespread criticism from supporters, officials confirmed.
The MetLife Stadium, selected to host the FIFA World Cup final and seven other major matches, is located in the Meadowlands, approximately 15 miles from Manhattan.

A standard return fare on the route typically costs around $12.90, but organisers had initially imposed a steep “tournament premium” that drew criticism from fans and even FIFA.
Only 40,000 train tickets will be available for each game at the 82,500-capacity venue.
Mikie Sherrill, who oversees the rail network transporting fans from Manhattan to the Meadowlands sports complex, directed NJ Transit to seek alternative financial support to lower costs.
“I asked NJ TRANSIT to find private sponsorships and other sources to reduce the cost of the ticket,” said NJ Transit chief Kris Kolluri.
“I am pleased we are able to reduce the price by at least 30 percent and bring the cost down to $105 per ticket,” Kolluri added.
Despite the reduction, criticism surrounding the pricing structure is expected to continue.
FIFA, already under pressure over high World Cup ticket prices, said original host city agreements required free transportation for fans attending matches.
Reacting to the original $150 fare, Football Supporters’ Association chief Thomas Concannon told the BBC: “We weren’t expecting to be gouged.”
The United States will co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, with the tournament scheduled to kick off on June 11.
