La Liga champions Barcelona have joined Bayern Munich in the race to sign Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon ahead of the summer transfer window.

Barcelona are reportedly monitoring the England international closely and have already opened discussions with Newcastle over a possible transfer.

Despite the club’s recent financial struggles, Barcelona are understood to have funds available for new signings through revenue generated from player sales.

Bayern Munich have also held formal talks with Newcastle regarding Gordon, although reports indicate there remains a significant gap in valuation between both clubs.

Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson previously insisted the club would only sanction player sales on “our terms”, underlining the Magpies’ strong negotiating position.

With Gordon contracted until 2030, Newcastle are believed to value the winger at no less than £70 million.

However, following a disappointing 12th-place finish in the Premier League, Newcastle may need to offload players this summer as part of a broader squad rebuild.

Gordon is increasingly viewed as one of the club’s most likely high-profile departures, particularly after being left on the bench for Newcastle’s final four matches of the season.

Manager Eddie Howe admitted after the club’s final-day defeat to Fulham that Gordon’s future remains uncertain.

“You can never predict what’s going to happen,” Howe said.

“He obviously goes to the World Cup now, so we wish him well.”

Barcelona are also reportedly monitoring several attacking options, including Julián Álvarez of Atlético Madrid and João Pedro of Chelsea.

The Catalan giants also retain the option of signing Marcus Rashford permanently following his loan spell from Manchester United.
