Liverpool manager Arne Slot has received a two-game touchline ban following his red card in the 2-2 draw against Everton. Slot was dismissed for confronting referee Michael Oliver on the pitch after the Premier League match at Goodison Park on February 12th.
As a result, he will miss Liverpool’s home games against Newcastle on Wednesday and Southampton on March 8th. However, he will be present on the touchline for the Champions League last-16 first leg against Paris St-Germain on March 5th.
In addition to the ban, Slot was fined £70,000 by an independent Football Association commission after admitting to the charge. Liverpool assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff also received a two-game ban and a £7,000 fine, while both Liverpool and Everton were fined £65,000 and £50,000 respectively for failing to control their players.
The chaotic scenes followed James Tarkowski’s 98th-minute equalizer, which sparked celebrations and a pitch invasion by Everton fans. Liverpool disputed the goal, arguing that a push on defender Ibrahima Konate should have resulted in a foul.
Slot exchanged words with an assistant referee before shaking hands with Oliver, who then issued the red card. Hulshoff was also dismissed.
Slot, who was unable to speak to the media immediately after the match, later expressed his frustration with the amount of stoppage time played. He subsequently admitted that “emotions got the better of me” in a later press conference.
