Sergio Ramos has reportedly reached an agreement to acquire a majority stake in La Liga club Sevilla FC in a €450 million deal.

According to reports in Spain, the former Real Madrid legend is leading a consortium backed by investment firm Five Eleven Capital to complete the takeover of the LaLiga club.

The group reportedly entered an exclusive negotiation period with Sevilla’s main shareholders in January and has now reached a breakthrough agreement.

El Pais, a Spanish outlet, reported that the transaction covers about 80 percent of Sevilla’s shares, valued at €3,500 per share.

The overall package is believed to be worth between €400 million and €450 million, including the club’s existing debts and financial liabilities.

Regulatory approval still required

Although financial guarantees have reportedly already been presented, the takeover process is not yet complete.

The consortium must still finalise capital transfers and submit the required documentation before the agreement can officially proceed.

The proposed acquisition will also require approval from LaLiga and Spain’s National Sports Council to ensure compliance with financial and legal regulations governing professional football.

Sevilla battling difficult season

Sevilla, one of Spain’s most successful modern clubs, have endured a difficult campaign this season.
The Andalusian side currently sit 13th in LaLiga with 40 points from 35 matches, although a recent 2-1 victory over Espanyol helped ease relegation fears.

The club has remained in Spain’s top flight continuously since the 2001-02 season.

Ramos returns to his roots

Ramos began his professional career at Sevilla’s academy before making his senior debut in 2004.

His performances earned him a then-record €27 million move to Real Madrid in 2005, where he became one of the most decorated defenders in football history.

During his time in Madrid, Ramos won 22 trophies, including four UEFA Champions League titles and five LaLiga crowns.

The 40-year-old returned to Sevilla in 2023 before later joining Mexican side CF Monterrey.

If the takeover is completed, Ramos would become one of the latest former football stars to move into club ownership, following figures such as Gerard Piqué, who purchased FC Andorra through his Kosmos group.
