The Russian Football Union (RFU) has announced plans for a high-profile international friendly match between Russia and Nigeria’s Super Eagles on June 6.
The RFU released a statement on its website, stating they have “reached agreements” with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and two other football bodies to arrange the friendly matches. While the match is scheduled to be played in Russia, the specific time and venue remain undecided.
Russia remains banned from FIFA and UEFA competitions due to the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Despite this ban, the Russian national team has continued to play friendly matches against non-Western countries.

The NFF has yet to release an official statement regarding the announced friendly. If the match goes ahead, it will be the first senior-level international game between Nigeria and Russia.
Before the potential Russia friendly, the Super Eagles will shift focus to the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March:
March 21: Rwanda vs. Nigeria – Amahoro Stadium, Kigali
March 25: Nigeria vs. Zimbabwe – Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
With crucial qualifiers ahead, the Super Eagles’ schedule remains packed as they prepare for both competitive and high-profile friendly matches.
