Euro 2024, the17th edition of the UEFA European Championship returns to German soil for the first time since reunification, after West Germany’s reign in 1988.

Matches will be held across ten cities in Germany, including Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg. The tournament will feature six groups of four teams each, with the top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, advancing to the knockout stages.

The tournament kicks off on Friday, June 14th, with Germany facing Scotland at the iconic Allianz Arena in Munich. The Euros will run until July 14th. The top two teams from each of the six groups will progress to the knockout stages, joined by the best four third-placed finishers.

The most expensive squads at Euro 2024 are led by England, with a total market value of approximately €1.52 billion. In this week’s edition of BusinessDay Business of Sports, we take a look at the ten most expensive squads at this year’s Euro according to data from Transfermarkt:

England – €1.52billion

England boasts the most valuable squad at Euro 2024. The team features stars like Bukayo Saka (€120 million), Harry Kane (€110 million), and Phil Foden (€110 million). Jude Bellingham, valued at €165 million, is considered the most valuable player in the squad.

France – €1.23billion

Kylian Mbappe, valued at €180 million, leads the French squad. Other notable players include Antoine Griezmann and N’Golo Kante. France’s total squad value is approximately €1.23 billion.

Portugal – €1.05billion

Portugal’s squad is valued at €1.05 billion, with Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias each valued at €80 million. Rafael Leao, valued at €76 million, is one of their standout players.

Spain – €965.5million

Spain’s squad, valued at €965.5 million, is led by Rodri (€98 million). Other key players include young talents like Pedri and Gavi.

Netherlands – €831million

The Dutch squad, valued at €831 million, features a strong defense with players like Virgil van Dijk, Matthijs de Ligt, and Nathan Ake. Xavi Simons, valued at €68 million, is their most valuable player.

Germany – €765million

Hosts Germany have a squad valued at €765 million. Jamal Musiala, valued at €100 million, is their most valuable player. Musiala chose to represent Germany despite playing for England at youth level.
