PFL announces launch of PFL Africa to grow MMA in Nigeria

The Professional Fighters League (PFL), a global leader in mixed martial arts (MMA), has announced the launch of PFL Africa, joining PFL Europe and PFL MENA as part of its vision to become the Champions League of MMA in Nigeria and Africa.

Set to kick off in 2025, PFL Africa will feature a Regular Season, Playoffs, and Championship with all events hosted in Africa.

In an innovative partnership, Helios Sports and Entertainment Group will hold a stake in the promotion of PFL Africa, with MMA superstar Francis Ngannou serving as Chairman.

The PFL, known for its cutting-edge approach to mixed martial arts and offering fighters the chance to win prizes up to $1 million, is expanding into Africa with significant investments planned over the next year.

PFL Africa aims to uncover and nurture African MMA talent. Significant investments are planned for the next 12 months to support this expansion.

“We are thrilled to announce PFL Africa,” said PFL CEO Peter Murray. “Africa is home to some of the greatest fighters and fans in the world. PFL Africa will deliver premium content and strengthen the PFL global footprint in this underserved market.”

Francis Ngannou, former heavyweight champion and Chairman of PFL Africa, expressed his excitement: “I am honoured to help shape African MMA. Africa has immense talent ready for a global stage. I’m proud to give back to my homeland and provide great content to a passionate and diverse fanbase.”

PFL Africa will feature a unique sport-season format with a Regular Season, Playoffs, and Championship, all hosted in Africa for the first time. Helios Sports & Entertainment Group has invested in this initiative, with MMA superstar Francis Ngannou serving as Chairman of the league.

Tope Lawani, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Helios Investment Partners added: “African talent has excelled globally in MMA, but there’s a scarcity of events despite high demand. This partnership with PFL and Francis Ngannou represents a huge growth opportunity.”

The PFL is eager to bring exciting MMA experiences to Africa and looks forward to the launch of PFL Africa.
