Morocco made history by securing their first-ever Olympic medal in men’s football with a dominant 6-0 win against Egypt in the bronze medal match at Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Atlas Lions, led by the standout Soufiane Rahimi, delivered a masterclass performance at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes, leaving Egypt stunned.
Rahimi, the tournament’s top scorer, added two more goals, bringing his total to eight and becoming the first player in Olympic football history to score in six consecutive matches.
Morocco’s victory was sealed early on, with Abde Ezzalzouli opening the scoring in the 23rd minute, followed by Rahimi’s powerful header three minutes later.
The second half saw Morocco continue their relentless attack, with Bilal El Khannouss, Akram Nakach, and captain Achraf Hakimi all adding to the scoreline. Hakimi’s stunning free-kick in the final moments capped off the emphatic win.
The bronze medal marks a significant achievement for Morocco, who narrowly missed a spot in the gold medal match after a heartbreaking defeat to Spain in the semi-finals.
Rahimi expressed joy, stating, “This is a dream come true for us. We promised our people we would win a medal, and we have delivered. This is a historic moment for Moroccan and African football.”
