Bolarinwa Kashif, the founder and chairman of Fly Fitness, has pledged to revitalise weightlifting in Oyo State following his appointment as chairman of the Oyo State Weightlifting Association.
Kashif was officially appointed on January 23, 2025, by the Oyo State Sports Council for a two-year tenure. In a letter signed by K. A. Ojelowo, the council’s acting general manager, K. A. Ojelowo, he was tasked with leading the development of weightlifting in the state under the council’s supervision.
The letter stated: “From your background, it is hoped that you will use your appointment for the development of weightlifting in Oyo State and elevate it to greater heights.”
Reacting to his appointment, Kashif expressed gratitude for the council’s confidence in him and assured that he would leverage his experience in fitness and sports development to promote weightlifting in the state.
“This is an opportunity to do something significant for weightlifting in Oyo State. We plan to introduce developmental programmes, talent scouting initiatives, and advocacy campaigns that will put the sport in the spotlight,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of youth involvement in sports administration, emphasising that young leaders bring fresh ideas that can drive real progress.
“For a long time, we have asked the government to trust young people with leadership positions. This appointment shows that they are beginning to see our potential, and I am committed to making the most of it,” he added.
Kashif’s appointment has been met with optimism within the sports community, with many hoping his leadership will lead to increased participation, improved infrastructure, and greater success for weightlifting in Oyo State.
