Nigeria international and newly crowned African footballer of the year Victor Osimhen has dumped lucrative offers from the English Premier League (EPL) clubs and signed a contract extension with Serie A champions Napoli until 2026, as announced by club president President Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Napoli confirmed the extension to the forward’s contract on social media with a post that reads: “Together until 2026” and a picture of Osimhen and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The 24-year-old previous contract was scheduled to expire in 2025.
According to Africa Facts Zone @AfricaFactsZone, his new release clause is worth £113million (€130m), making him the most expensive African football player.
“Victor Osimhen’s £113 million release clause at Napoli makes him the most valuable African Player.”
Also, according to reports from Sky Sport Italia and football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Osimhen is expected to earn €10m per season after tax in his new contract.
Napoli paid €75m plus bonuses to sign the Nigerian star from Lille in September 2020. The Super Eagles striker had a remarkable performance and helped the Parthenopeans win their first Scudetto in over three decades.
Osimhen scored 31 goals in all competitions last season and was crowned the Italian Footballers’ Association Player of the Year.
Osimhen has attracted offers from Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and PSG, who were reportedly linked to signing Osimhen.
In November, he turned down a big-money offer to move to Saudi Arabia in the summer.
Osimhen also earned a nomination for the Ballon d’Or, where he finished 8th, becoming the first Nigerian to make the top 10 of the Ballon d’Or voting.
Osimhen has continued his fantastic scoring record this campaign, having already netted seven goals in 12 league matches.
