Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo is hopeful that Taiwo Awoniyi will return soon after missing his side’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham.
The Super Eagles striker was absent from the squad at Craven Cottage, where Forest’s Premier League campaign took a hit against Marco Silva’s men.
Awoniyi had suffered a broken nose in a collision with Exeter goalkeeper Joe Whitworth during Forest’s previous match, forcing him off early.

As a result, he missed the Fulham clash and may need to wear a protective mask upon his return, similar to his compatriot Victor Osimhen.
Espirito Santo confirmed that Awoniyi was ruled out due to concussion protocols, as the club had not yet received clearance from the Premier League.
“We didn’t have clearance from the Premier League regarding the concussion protocols, so he couldn’t be in the squad,” Nuno told Nottingham Post. “I hope he will be OK for the next one.”
Despite his absence, Awoniyi is reportedly feeling fine, but Forest must comply with league regulations before he can return.
“He is fine, but we must follow the protocols,” Nuno added. “We have to respect the process.”
Forest will hope to have Awoniyi available for their next Premier League fixture against Newcastle as they continue their fight up the table.
