President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the Confederation of African Football’s 48th Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards Ceremony.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a high-level meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
The hosting rights mark a significant return of the CAF Awards to Nigeria, which will take over from Morocco after the North African nation’s three-year hosting streak.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to take place in October 2026.
Also present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, CAF President’s Special Adviser Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
The CAF Ordinary General Assembly brings together presidents of all 54 member associations, representatives of the six zonal unions, and senior football officials from across the continent.
The gathering serves as one of African football’s most important governance platforms, shaping policy and development strategies for the sport.
The CAF Awards is an annual ceremony that recognises the continent’s top footballers, coaches and teams.
The event is widely regarded as one of African football’s biggest celebrations, honouring outstanding performances across club and international competitions.
