The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday officially unveiled Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles during a ceremony held at the media conference room of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Chelle, a former Mali international and head coach, becomes the first non-Nigerian African to manage Nigeria’s men’s senior national team—a decision that has sparked mixed reactions among fans and football pundits in the country.

The 47-year-old was confirmed as the Super Eagles’ manager last week and becomes the 42nd substantive head coach in the team’s history. His appointment comes at a critical time, with the Super Eagles struggling in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Nigeria currently sits fifth in Group C with just three points from four matches and is yet to secure a victory in the qualifiers. Chelle has been tasked with reviving Super Eagles World Cup hopes and rebuilding confidence among the players and fans.
