The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed sympathy with players and officials of Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt following the road accident involving the club’s team bus.
The accident, which left some members of the contingent with minor injuries while travelling to Awka, Anambra State, for their 2026 President’s Federation Cup Round of 16 clash against Nasarawa United.

In a statement, the NFF said it received the news with shock after learning that the incident occurred along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt as the team made its way to Awka for the knockout fixture.
“While we thank God that there were no fatalities, we empathise with those who sustained minor injuries in the accident and wish them a quick recovery,” NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said.
The Federation assured Rivers United of its support and solidarity during the recovery period of the affected players and officials.
According to the official fixtures released by the NFF, Rivers United are scheduled to face Nasarawa United in Awka, with kickoff set for 4pm, and the winner progressing to the quarter-finals of the competition.
