The winner of the last year edition of the MTN Lagos Street Soccer, Male category, , ABS Street of Iyana-Ipaja, in Mosan Okunola LCDA of Lagos State is set to defend the title in this year’s edition of the championship.

The team which is in the group fourteen in the first round of the tournament is set to trade tackles with Oni Street of Ojodu, Abisu street of Agbado Oke-Odo and Rainbow street of Mosan Okunola to progress to the next stage of the tournaments.

Speaking on the draws for the new season, Yusuf Adigun, the captain of the ABS Street team said that the team is well positioned to win the title it won last year.”I will like to say that the confidence in on our own part, we have all it takes to play and win the title once again. Meanwhile we rely on God’s grace for this” he said.

Also Uzor Okoro, a member of the defending champions, who is also the face of the MTN Lagos Street soccer season seven has said that, the benefits of winning the tournament is more that want a team can take for granted.  “Winning the tournament last year has really positioned ABS as a team to beat in this new season. We are the target of all other teams. Meanwhile, the benefits and the joy we received as winners is enough for us to put all our strength in the game and ensure that we can do more. I believe we are up to the task as the defending champions” he declared.

Meanwhile, MTN has been involved in the sponsorship of the MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship since 2008 and is keen on promoting the project as a force to reckon with in grassroots soccer. It also allows MTN to fulfil its social responsibility obligations to the people of its host state, Lagos especially the youth while allowing connection to the brand, promoting product education & driving customer acquisition at the grass roots

With this project, MTN provides an opportunity for that youth on the street connect with his passion for Football while giving life to the brand essence of enriching lives. Today, the initiative has produced footballers that are doing fine in both the local and foreign football leagues.

Thousands teams across the local government and local council development areas of Lagos State have registered and ready to participate in this year’s edition. The 2013 edition of the championship had ABS Street team of Mosan Okunola LCDA as the overall winners, for male category while Triumph FC of Lagos Island West, emerged the female category winner and Gbadebo Folarin Street, Ojokoro,  emerged the maiden winner of the Under-15 category.
