The first Academy of the ongoing MTN Football Scholar Season 4 camp has opened at the Testim Balogun Stadium, Lagos with 42 youngsters who were picked across the country in the just concluded auditions. The camp is currently sparkling with the array of football skills and academic prowess being display by the young talents.
This year edition of MTN Football Scholar which commenced in April this year with auditions in six cities across the country saw the organizers combing the nooks and crannies of the country to bring together thousands of not just young football talents but also kids who have the academic capacity to have a place in an American University.
From the academy, the selected student-athletes will proceed to the second academy after undergoing special football training under the supervision of invited foreign soccer and Nigerian coaches. There, they will also have intensive classes in preparation for Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
Meanwhile, the finalists from the season 3 of the initiative who will be hosted to a sent forth dinner later in the month are continue to savor the experience of traveling to an American University on the platform.
Ahamad Raji, a sixteen year-old student of Kings College Lagos, who will be travelling to US to study at Masters Academy, Miami said there is nothing incomparable to the opportunity MTN has provided him through the football scholarship.” This is a unique opportunity, which I will cherish for the rest of my life. MTN has provided an opportunity that will positively shape the future of this generation” he noted.
In the same vein, Sampson Paul Bassey, a graduate of Seward College said the scheme will definitely define his personality. “I passed through this scheme for a whole year; it has really been a great experience. Securing admission to study in Holderness School in Plymouth New Hampshire in the US under the scholarship of MTN is unbelievable. To be the beneficiary of this unique opportunity where I can combine football and academy is a dream come true as far as I am concerned, “the 17-year-old said.
The MTN Football Scholar initiative is a youth soccer camp focusing equally on football and academics. It provides a platform for Nigeria’s best student athletes/soccer players that are academically sound, to earn scholarships to America universities.
