According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes, Liverpool and Manchester United are set to go head-to-head this summer in a bid to sign Nigerian and Atalanta star Ademola Lookman.

The 26-year-old Nigerian forward has had an inspiring journey in football. He helped Atalanta secure a major trophy for the first time in almost 60 years by scoring a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final. The 2023/24 season was tremendous for Lookman, as he made 45 appearances across all competitions, recording 17 goals and 10 assists.

Lookman’s perseverance has paid off, as he now plays a crucial role in Atalanta’s success, contributing to their Europa League victory, which marks their second major trophy since the 1963 Coppa Italia.

This summer, Liverpool are keen to bolster their squad in several areas, including their attack. The arrival of new manager Arne Slot is expected to bring fresh talent to the club, as the Dutchman seeks players who align with his play and philosophy.

Lookman’s impressive performance in the Europa League final has caught Liverpool’s eye, and they are now prepared to make an effort to bring him to Anfield. According to Fichajes, the starting price for Lookman could be around €60 million, and clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United are all interested in bidding for the explosive striker.

“Ademola Lookman, Atalanta’s talented attacker, has caught the attention of several Premier League giants after his dazzling MVP performance in the Europa League final,” as quoted by Fichajes.

The Europa League champions are asking for a fee in the region of about €60 million for Lookman, meaning Liverpool and Manchester United will need to make a significant financial commitment to secure his services.

“With a starting price that could be around €60 million, his return to England is emerging as a real possibility. Clubs interested in his services include Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United, all of whom are willing to bid for the explosive striker.”

Liverpool sees Lookman as a player who can add depth and versatility to their attacking front. Manager Jürgen Klopp, known for his ability to develop young talent, is interested in bringing Lookman back to the Premier League.

Man United, in their quest to rebuild and strengthen their team, view Lookman as an ideal option to reinforce their attack. Coach Erik ten Hag is seeking players who can make a difference in crucial games, and Lookman has proven his capability in the Europa League.
