The Kwara state sports stadium in Ilorin came alive with energy as the Kwara State/FA Sport Showcase Tourney kicked off with a vibrant opening ceremony.

In the tournament’s first game, Kwara Football Academy defeated Stars Builders Academy 2-0.

Mallam Bolakale Magaji, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, set the tone with an inspiring address, emphasising the government’s dedication to nurturing young talent and providing a platform for them to shine.

“Seeing is believing,” Magaji declared. “Anyone with doubts should come to the stadium and witness the talent on display. We have scouts from Europe and 14 teams participating, including a team from Lagos and a foreign team from Ghana.”

The presence of European scouts offers a potential pathway to professional careers for outstanding players. Magaji expressed confidence that at least three players would be selected to pursue their dreams in Europe, which could transform their lives.

“We are talking about a government that is committed to taking the youth off the streets,” Magaji emphasized. “By the grace of God, no fewer than three players will be picked here and will move to Europe, marking the beginning of a new life.”

Magaji’s enthusiasm was infectious, encouraging anyone with doubts to witness the talent on display.

The tournament also emphasizes fair play and sportsmanship, ensuring a positive and uplifting experience for all involved.

“Play fair and win fair,” Magaji urged the players.

Speaking at the event, Farouk Abdulrasaq, the son of the Executive Governor of Kwara State who represented his father at the opening ceremony, praised the government’s efforts in creating the program.

“This is a Kwara State Government outreach program that we are really proud of,” Abdulrasaq said. “Thanks to His Excellency, the Governor, we’ve seen these boys get an experience that is truly rare. Thanks to FA Sport for coordinating with our state for a truly special occasion.”
