Pep Guardiola described Manchester City’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United as a “massive” moment in the Premier League title race after his side cut Arsenal’s lead to two points.
City’s tense win at the Etihad Stadium saw Nico O’Reilly score twice in the first half, restoring the advantage after Lewis Hall had briefly equalised for Newcastle.

“Massive. Newcastle is an incredible team, awesome in physicality and the speed they have up front. Really tough, but the team was unbelievable,” Guardiola said.
“It’s coming in the best part of the season. Every single game will be similar to today.”
After finishing last season without silverware, City are firmly back in contention for what would be the seventh English title of Guardiola’s reign. They will have a game in hand on Arsenal after this weekend and would be guaranteed the title if they win their remaining 11 league fixtures.
Over the past year, Guardiola has overseen a significant squad overhaul, moving on senior figures such as Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson and Kyle Walker, while integrating younger additions including Marc Guehi, Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki.
Guardiola also singled out O’Reilly for praise.
“Nico gives us the physicality we need in midfield. He is so complete and so young. I’m really pleased the academy produced these incredible players.”
