Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been placed in a challenging group for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following the official draw conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The seven-time champions will face Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco in Group B of the tournament, scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18.

Nigeria defeated Egypt 1-0 in the group stage of the last edition and will need a strong start in Côte d’Ivoire to build momentum in their quest for the title. The Flying Eagles finished third in the 2023 edition hosted by Egypt.

Former Malian international Adama Coulibaly, who assisted with the draw at CAF headquarters in Egypt, described Group B as the toughest:

“There is no doubt that the toughest group is Group B, which includes Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco.”

Hosts Cote d’Ivoire will compete in Group A against DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania, and the yet-to-be-determined representative from the Central Africa zone.

Group C consists of defending champions Senegal, Zambia, and two tournament debutants, Kenya and Sierra Leone.

The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.

GROUP A: Cote d’Ivoire, UNNIFAC, DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania
GROUP B: Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Morocco
GROUP C: Senegal, Zambia, Kenya, Sierra Leone
