Floyd Mayweather plots $700m deal to buy stake in NFL club New York Giants

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is aiming to acquire a 10 per cent stake in NFL club New York Giants in a $700 million deal alongside real estate mogul Meyer Orbach.

Mayweather, known for his undefeated boxing career and extravagant wealth, is now looking to break into the NFL ownership circle with one of his biggest financial ventures to date.

According to TMZ Sports, Mayweather has partnered with Orbach, who already owns nearly 20 per cent of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves, to prepare an official bid. The duo has reportedly secured $200 million (£159 million) in an escrow account as part of their financial preparations.

“My partners and I are always looking at different opportunities, including ownership of sports teams. I can’t comment further than that,” Orbach stated.

The New York Giants, valued at $7.3 billion, rank as the seventh most valuable sports franchise in the world, according to Forbes. The team is just behind the New England Patriots ($7.4 billion) and sits among elite U.S. sports franchises, with the Dallas Cowboys topping the list at $10.1 billion.

This opportunity arose after two Giants minority owners expressed interest in offloading part of their stake, opening the door for Mayweather’s group to enter the exclusive world of NFL ownership—where team shares are rarely available.

Mayweather, 47, has never been shy about his lavish spending—owning a $20 million luxury car collection—but this deal would take his financial portfolio to a whole new level. If the purchase goes through, it would mark one of his most significant business investments, placing him alongside billionaire sports franchise owners.

With co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch reportedly considering selling part of their stake, the timing could be perfect for Mayweather and Orbach to seal the deal.
