Despite playing a 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia and recording a 3-2 win over Mozambique in their recent international friendlies, Nigeria’s Super Eagles maintained 40th position in the latest FIFA World ranking released Thursday.
Jose Peseiro’s team held the 39th ranking in June and July. Still, it slipped to 40th in September and October rankings. Also, it remained in sixth place in Africa behind Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt, the top five in Africa.
Lesotho, group opponents of the Super Eagles in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, suffered a drop in the ranking from 151 to 153.
The other teams in the Super Eagles World Cup qualifying group, South Africa, dropped from 63 to 64, and Zimbabwe retained the 125th position.
FIFA 2022 World Cup winners Argentina remain at the top with France in second and Brazil third. England is in the fourth spot, and Belgium completes the top five.
