FIFA has named eight host cities for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Brazil from June 24 to July 25, 2027.
FIFA revealed the venues for the month-long tournament on Wednesday, though the locations for the highly anticipated opening match and the final are yet to be decided.
Familiar Grounds: Cities from the 2014 Men’s World Cup
All selected cities were previously used during the 2014 FIFA Men’s World Cup and include:
Rio de Janeiro (Maracanã Stadium)
São Paulo (Neo Química Arena)
Belo Horizonte (Mineirão Stadium)
Brasília (Nacional Stadium)
Fortaleza (Arena Castelão)
Porto Alegre (Beira-Rio Stadium)
Recife (Arena Pernambuco)
Salvador (Arena Fonte Nova)
FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the selection of the venues.
“From stunning beaches to cosmopolitan cities, the world will experience the energy, colour, and warmth only Brazil can offer.”
Maracanã and São Paulo tipped for showpiece matches
Members of Brazil’s football federation have expressed interest in staging the opening match in São Paulo and the final at Rio’s iconic Maracanã Stadium, which hosted the men’s final in 2014.
Cities such as Curitiba, Manaus, Natal, and Belém, all part of the 2014 men’s tournament, were excluded from the women’s event.
FIFA’s streamlined approach this time emphasises coastal and high-population urban centres, avoiding the widespread geographic stretch that drew criticism in 2014.
Brazil chasing first Women’s World title
This will mark Brazil’s first time hosting the Women’s World Cup. Despite being a five-time men’s World Cup champion, Brazil’s women’s national team has yet to win a global title, making 2027 a potentially historic moment for women’s football in the country.
