Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract, securing his future at Old Trafford until 2027, with the option to extend for a year.

The Portuguese playmaker’s new deal elevates him to the top of the club’s wage scale, matching Marcus Rashford’s £350,000-a-week salary. Previously, Fernandes was earning around £220,000 per week, meaning the new contract represents a significant pay rise.

This renewal comes despite the squad having taken a 25% pay cut following United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Expressing his excitement, Fernandes shared his gratitude with the club.

“Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United. I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club. I wouldn’t have signed this contract if I didn’t believe that my best moments in a United shirt are still to come.”

Fernandes, who turns 30 next month, has already made memorable contributions to the club, including winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup as captain. He was recently linked with Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and clubs in the Saudi Pro League, but his contract extension puts any transfer speculation to rest.

United’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, praised Fernandes’ leadership and consistent performances.

“Bruno has performed at such a high level with remarkable consistency since he arrived at Manchester United. He is a brilliant leader, driving daily standards and inspiring the players and staff to perform at their highest levels every day. Bruno’s dedication epitomises what it takes to be a United player.”

Since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for £68 million, Fernandes has scored 79 goals in 234 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions. His new contract solidifies his role as a key figure in United’s push for future success.
