Ex-Arsenal teammate drums support for Chido Obi Martin after Man United debut

Max Dowman, a former teammate of Chido Obi Martin at the Arsenal academy, has expressed support for the teenage star of Nigerian descent following his debut for Manchester United against Tottenham.

However, the Red Devils suffered a 1-0 defeat, with James Maddison’s early goal proving the difference in the Premier League clash.

The young forward made his long-awaited Premier League debut in the loss to Spurs as one of the few changes made by United manager Ruben Amorim.

Following the match, Dowman took to Instagram to show support for Chido Obi Martin, sharing an image of the youngster with the caption: “My brother.”

Chido Obi Martin, who joined United last summer after struggling for game time under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, was handed his first senior appearance by Amorim.

The 17-year-old Nigerian-born Danish youth international replaced Casemiro in the 90th minute, but with little time left on the clock, he did not get a single touch of the ball before the final whistle.

Despite his brief cameo, Chido Obi Martin expressed gratitude for the opportunity.

“Disappointed with the loss. On a personal note, thanks to the gaffer and the club for making a dream come true for me and my family,” he wrote on Instagram.

Interestingly, Obi remains eligible to represent Nigeria, England, or Denmark at the senior international level, setting up a potential battle for his allegiance in the future.

The Manchester United youngster, who became the 252nd academy graduate to feature for the Red Devils senior team, will be hoping for more opportunities with the first team in the coming weeks.
