The Uruguayan striker broke the deadlock in the 91st minute, latching onto Trent Alexander-Arnold’s precise low cross to slot home from close range. Just two minutes later, Nunez struck again, demonstrating composure in a crowded penalty area to finish off a swift counter-attack, punishing Brentford’s overcommitment in search of an equalizer.
Despite taking until stoppage time to find the breakthrough, Liverpool dominated possession and territory throughout. Dominik Szoboszlai came close in the first half, with his curling effort rattling the crossbar, while Luis Diaz squandered a golden opportunity after finding himself unmarked at the far post.
Brentford’s defensive resilience and deep-lying strategy frustrated Liverpool for much of the game. However, they posed little attacking threat, leaving striker Bryan Mbeumo isolated and unable to capitalize on rare counter-attacking opportunities.
