England’s final 2026 FIFA World Cup warm-up friendly against Costa Rica was delayed on Wednesday after a heavy thunderstorm disrupted conditions in Orlando.

Torrential rain and lightning left the pitch heavily waterlogged ahead of the scheduled 4pm (2000 GMT) kick-off.

“Today’s game against Costa Rica has been delayed due to weather conditions in Orlando. We’ll provide further updates as soon as we have them,” the English Football Association said in a statement.

Officials added that the match could face further delays of up to 30 minutes if lightning is detected within an eight-mile radius of the stadium.
