The Gillette Stadium in Foxborough is set to come alive on Tuesday as England and Ghana clash in what promises to be one of the most captivating fixtures of the FIFA 2026 World Cup group stage.

Both teams began their campaigns with victories and know that another win could secure a place in the knockout rounds.

England opened their Group L campaign with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Croatia. While Thomas Tuchel’s side looked vulnerable defensively in the first half, they produced a dominant second-half display, with goals from Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford underlining their attacking quality.

The Three Lions will be hoping to build on that momentum and maintain their perfect start to the tournament.

Ghana, however, will have other ideas.

The Black Stars secured a dramatic 1-0 win over Panama in their opening match thanks to Caleb Yirenkyi’s stoppage-time winner. Carlos Queiroz’s men showed resilience and discipline throughout that contest and will be aiming to frustrate England while capitalising on any defensive weaknesses.

Queiroz Relishing England’s Challenge

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz insists facing England is the easiest kind of match to prepare for because motivation is never an issue when taking on one of football’s biggest nations.

“This is the easiest type of match, because when you’re about to play against England, France or Germany, you don’t need to say anything to the players. They’re fully motivated,” Queiroz said.

“Everybody is fully switched on, and everybody wants to perform well.

“What we have to do in this type of game is moderate the enthusiasm, but mainly we need to work together. Whatever happens, we must stick together and fight for 90 minutes.”

The experienced Portuguese coach also delivered a rallying cry to his players ahead of the contest.

“We know they have the three lions on their shirt, but we come from Ghana and have 33 million lions to fight for in this game,” he added.

England’s Attack vs Ghana’s Resilience

England’s attack looked sharp and confident against Croatia, with Kane leading the line effectively and receiving strong support from Bellingham, Rashford and the rest of Tuchel’s attacking unit.

However, Ghana will take encouragement from the fact that Croatia managed to expose England’s defence on several occasions.

The Black Stars are expected to remain compact and disciplined, relying on quick transitions and counter-attacks to trouble the Three Lions.

A victory for England would guarantee qualification for the Round of 32 and potentially secure top spot in Group L, while Ghana know that a positive result would put them in a commanding position heading into their final group match.

Prediction

England possess greater attacking depth and experience at this level, but Ghana have already shown they are capable of defending resolutely and striking when it matters most.

The Black Stars are unlikely to make life easy for Tuchel’s side, but England’s superior firepower could prove decisive.

Prediction: England 2-1 Ghana.
