Deola Banjoko, engineer, now chairs Ikoyi Club Ladies’ golf section

Deola Banjoko, an engineer and entrepreneur, has been unveiled as the new chairperson and lady captain of Ikoyi Club, Golf Sub-Committee in Lagos.

At her recent installation in Lagos, Banjoko promised to provide access to better training for the ladies of the club and to dedicate her tenure to driving the sub-committee towards ensuring that golf sport is more enjoyable and beneficial for members.

According to her, the game of golf may be dominated by men, just like most sports, but ladies are finding their way into golf, which is why it now has a sizable feminine population.

She said the attraction of the game of golf offers the same physical and mental health benefits to ladies as it does the men.

Banjoko further said that part of her agenda as the lady captain will be to project activities that use golf as a sport to change the lives of ladies and children.

“We want to invest in improving the skills of our members and we plan to use golf as a tool to enhance the quality of the lives of those within our sphere of influence both young and old alike,” she said.

Commenting on the target for the game of golf, the lady captain said there are new incentives for lady golfers at the club in preparation for the championship which will be keenly contested.

She however said that the aim of the championship is to sharpen the skills of members and provide an opportunity to discover new talents, adding that she will be introducing new categories of medals.

According to her, the golf sub-committee is introducing a new gold trophy called ‘emilokun’ which is designed to drive lady golfers to push beyond their limits to attain new personal records as they play the game of golf.

Thanking God for the opportunity to serve in her new role and to improve the opportunities of members, she promised to run an all-conclusive tenure by carrying every member of the club along in decision-making irrespective of individual ideologies.

Wahab Saromi, captain of Golf at Ikoyi Club, said the golf section views the lady club as an important part of the section and will continue to support the lady sub-committee in all their endeavours.
