Portugal’s iconic forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has officially penned a new two-year contract with Al-Nassr, keeping him at the Saudi club until 2027.
The extension puts an end to recent speculation surrounding the 40-year-old’s future, as his previous deal was set to expire at the end of June.
“A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let’s make history together,” Ronaldo wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming the extension.
The announcement follows a cryptic post from Ronaldo at the end of the 2024/25 season, where he wrote, “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.”
That message sparked rumours about a potential departure or retirement, which have now been firmly shut down with this new deal.
Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr Journey So Far
Since arriving in Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo has delivered 93 goals and 19 assists in 105 appearances for Al-Nassr across all competitions. Despite his prolific scoring record, the club has yet to win the Saudi Pro League title during his tenure.
In the recently concluded season, Al-Nassr finished third in the league, missing out on qualification for the AFC Champions League Elite. They will instead compete in the AFC Champions League 2 next season.
Ronaldo will also miss the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after Al-Nassr failed to qualify for the expanded 32-team tournament in the United States.
Coaching Uncertainty at Al-Nassr
The new contract comes amid a period of transition at the club. Stefano Pioli, who took charge less than a year ago, parted ways with Al-Nassr on Wednesday, becoming the third full-time manager to leave the role since Ronaldo’s arrival.
Still Going Strong at 40
Ronaldo continues to defy age, recently leading Portugal to a UEFA Nations League title, his third international trophy. The new Al-Nassr deal ensures that he will continue playing top-level football in Saudi Arabia well into his 42nd year, further cementing his legacy as one of the game’s enduring icons.
