The first ever International beach soccer event in Nigeria and in the Sub-Saharan Africa, Copa Lagos, will hold from December 12-14, 2014, at the Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos-Nigeria.
Kinetic Sports, a marketing company based in Lagos and organisers of the beach soccer competition announced this at a press briefing held at the Eko Hotel and Suite, Lagos.
Samson Adamu, CEO, Kinetic Sports, told sports journalists that Copa Lagos, founded in 2011, aims to have a strategic role in development of beach soccer in Nigeria.
Adamu, announced that the European club giant, FC Barcelona team of Spain would participate in this year’s beach soccer edition. He said the famous Spanish would play three of the biggest Nigerian clubs including Stationery Stores of Lagos in a Challenge, adding that the Super Sand Eagles would be defending their title against some of the best beach soccer National Teams in the world tournament that will feature Switzerland, Cote D’ivoire, while it will announce final surprise team later.
According to Adamu, Copa Lagos will be played in a Round-Robin format (League Format), paving way for each team to prove itself against all participants during the three days of competition.
He remarked that since Copa Lagos was launched three years ago, there has been substantial increase expert participation from the sports industry as it is projected to be greater in this year’s edition. Adamu explained that the three-day events, which is prime family tailored will celebrate every sphere of life including music, fashion, entertainment and sports to make it more interesting for every member of the family.
The CEO stated that as part of entertainment, a night concert featuring 15 Nigerian artistes will be performed live for the opening ceremony of the event.
According to the organisers, five international television channels including Euro Sports, Al Jazeera Sports, Super Sports of America, Brazil’s Global Sports and Super Sports South Africa will provide live coverage of the competition.
Similarly the social media platform such a Twitter, Facebook, U Tube among others will be explored to expand coverage of the event, whereas, Soundcity Television, CNN among others will focus attention on out entertainments ceremonies.
